Detroit outlines plans to improve life for the city's disabled residents

7/26/21

"Duggan, who created the Office of Disability Affairs in January, unveiled the 2021 Detroit Disability Community Strategic Plan, which will be rolled out in three phases...Next year, the city will launch Phase 2 of the effort, which will focus on training for city employees to increase disability awareness, enhance sidewalk conditions, public transportation, and accessible parking. Phase 2 also is intended to increase job opportunities, accessible housing, and provide American Sign Language and captioning for digital content.

The final phase will begin in 2023 and improve law enforcement and emergency responders’ interaction with people with disabilities, continue to increase the disability employment rate in Detroit, and improve equitable access to health care.”
